150 words on Voice for Streetcar

Voice plays a large role in the interpretation and characterization of a role. Thereby I decided that after choosing my monologue from Stanley I decided to play around with my voice almost as a trial and error situation, using different accents, adjusting my pitch, volume and clarity of each word to see what best fit my interpretation of Stanley's Character this consequently meant that I was able to come to a decision that used all aspects of my voice to its highest potential. After doing this exercise I was able to work more on other aspects to gain the perfect representation of my character meaning my performance was not only correct and true but was interesting and had a different approach than others interpretations. Once I had my voice I had realised that pace seemed to be an issue therefore I repeated my monologue each time changing the pace of the monologue as a whole and individual lines that used pace as a form of emphasis.

150 words on Language for Eqqus

Language is used strongly to determine a character, and for the audience to base a stereotype on where they come from based of their language and accent and therefore judge what they would see they would stereotypically act like. Therefore in class we looked at the importance of language and how it can be used along with movement to determine a character for example we started to speak "Gibberish" the others didn't know what we meant but we did therefore Language is important in order for people to understand what we are trying to say etc. We then looked at different accents and language variations, Northern England (Yorkshire), proper English, slang English etc. This then helped us to understand characters more and their motivations, again it helped to base a stereotype on my character for example when speaking in proper English my character spoke with a very soothing, well pronounced voice to show his status and pride.

150 words on characterisation for eqqus

In order to delve deeper into a characters actions you need to perform some sort of exercise in characterization. We therefore did this is your life, an exercise where I took a character and performed as them in improvisation while people came into interact as different characters where I would then change the way my character acted when in the presence of various characters from Eqqus. I was Alan, when alone I was very quiet and still but when anyone was around I became on edge and knew that Alan preferred to be alone and felt uneasy around people especially around Dysart. Therefore when Dysart came to me I felt knew that Alan was very dismissive and blunt with Dysart because of Dysart's questioning character that Alan sees as interfering which explains why he acts that way to Dysart.

150 words on interpretion for StreetCar

Interpretation is the rendering of a drama piece or character so as to bring out the meaning, or to indicate a persons particular conception of it.
Therefore to show contrast in ways to interpret and character or script we read scene 2 in Streetcar, I then took the character of Stella and performed 3 times, changing my interpretation of her character each time to start I was very fearful of Stanley and became small and used a high pitch voice, when I became angry at Stanley standing up and crowding Toby(Stanley)with a slightly deeper, stronger tone of voice I also opened up my body, We then both became very happy and calm, meaning that my character changed and the way that we both interacted with each other a fast and our tones of voice and movement showed this.

150 words on language for Streetcar

In lesson we went into pairs and directed each other, looking at the text and how its written and also what words are used throughout the text that create the character and how to perform. When I directed Emily I said that the italics showed aggression and with passion also the repetition of words were italic on the last repeat and the use of commas created the build up of tension and aggression. Also when performing Emily pointed out the same points but said that after each exclamation mark the tension fell, therefore on the build up to this it create aggression and became louder and more aggressive up to an explosion of anger and then the cooling down to start the next sentence.

150 Words on Context for Equus

We took scene 6 from Eqqus where Dysart explains to Hesther about Alans situation with his father not agreeing with TV and Dora and Frank are discussing their views on TV. When performing we chose to have Dora and Frank on separate sides to represent the modern views of Dora and old fashioned views of Frank to show the contrast in Context. When performing as Alan I chose to show an on edge character when talking about my mother because of context, Where Alan's mother wanted Alan to be happy where as Frank wanted Alan to be successful and as a successful man in the 70s Frank was very anxious to allow Alan to become religious because in the time religion was very much covered up by men. When explaining what Frank had said as Alan I very much imitated him because he seemed to be the only one drilling it into Alan's head therefore this to Alan was how it should be said.

150 words on Context for StreetCar

To start with in the lesson we did a bus stop scene using different eras of people that got onto a bus, this was to show the contrast between contexts and to think about what contextual elements are used in Streetcar. After that we were to create of off text scene of streetcar but still use an idea from the text, our idea was to use the poker scene but have my character, Billie as the modern views character. When the men were talking about their wives and how they were used merely for sex and what were considered as lady jobs in the 40's I as Billy disagreed and gave modern views telling them how wrong it was and sexist which is how it is now. This showed the contrast in the eras and also showed how we used context to produced our characters where the other men were very slouched and load I was, straighter and more quiet and sincere to show the way the men acted in the 40's.
